Voted Off The Island

yep - i'm done. it appears that my passion and my priorities don't align with what backroads is looking for in a trip leader. their would be no way for me to train and race while working for this company. the job is a 16hr a day all encompassing position. you have to live this job. as i said to meisner today "if i'm working 16hr days it's going to be on trail". it was an interesting experience and one i do not regret.

one door closes another one opens.

i'm actually pretty excited about scratching an old itch being free to travel the country racing and training. there are so many possiblilties going through my head right now; 100 milers, appalachian trail with meltzer, training in the colorado mountains, living a simple ultra life... bring it.

WOW, crazy and exciting times Hart!!
I was that close to doing something similar in March, great job, great pay, but they would not guarantee me a single day off for a single race all season...that was all it took for me to say C YA, maybe never.
I got a sweet pad in North Van, couch is free if you wanna hit up some trails this summer.

Hart- Bummer about being voted off the island but it's likely for the best. If you would have had to 'live' the job, and sacrifice training, you wouldn't have been happy. Besides- staying in posh hotels would have made you soft......

Wow...LOVE the attitude you have though with that! Your priorities are yours to decide upon!

The Boulder, CO. bed in the basement is always ready for you Matt. Best of luck!

Bummer in a way, Matt, but better to find out immediately so you can adapt and move on - which sounds like it didn't take much time :-)

I know you always make the best of things, so really this opens a whole new world of opportunity for you. And hey, you got to check out a pretty sweet part of the country while you were there.

thanks for the support guys.. but because i had given up basically the whole race season for this job AND would have shown up at the transrockies in no shape to race it wasn't hard to move on. it's just not a good fit for me right now.

i really appreciate the support. gary and bruce you will be seeing me very soon! i'm devising a plan as we speak..

and bobbyknight - thanks for the offer, i'd love to do some training in boulder. but it's not looking like i'll be able to get to there. trust me i'll try. damn gas prices!

It seemed like maybe the schedule was a bit much to keep your high level of training up, so maybe it was better to find out now. Good luck on the racing - will you be back on with Karl now?

yep that is exactly what it means. i'm at karls right now. we've been talking details about the appalachian trail assault all day.

it's going to be an amazing summer!

So many changes in such a short time. Good for you to keep moving forward, rolling and evolving to make it the best it can be for you. Look forward to watching the plan come to fruition.
